TANKER 1
Tanker 1 is a 1979 Chevy Kodiak chassis with a body and tank built by "Four Guys." It has a front mounted 1000 gallon per minute pump and an elliptical 1800 gallon water tank. The Tanker carries a portable drop-tank, which looks much like a "kiddie pool." This drop tank can be set up in a matter of minutes, and the Tanker truck can quickly dump the entire 1800 gallons of water into this pool in about 2 to 3 minutes. In areas without adequate water supply (fire hydrants), this operation is vital to firefighters. Once the water is dumped into the drop-tank, firefighters can begin pumping water from the small pool, while Tanker 1 finds a source of water to refill at, and then return to re-supply the drop-tank. This operation is called a "Tanker Shuttle." Tanker 1 also carries two (2) Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (S.C.B.A.) and two spare 30-minute air bottles. T-1 responds second-out from Station 2 in the north end of town. In March of 2006, Tanker 1 was completely repainted and new lettering was applied to the truck.
