Fulltime
firefighting positions in the Acushnet Fire / Rescue Department are
governed by Civil Service. To be considered for a position, a
candidate must first take and pass the Municipal Firefighter Entry
Level Examination conducted by the
Massachusetts Human Resource Division (Civil Service). A link

The
department welcomes residents interested in call firefighter
positions to visit the station for an application. Minimum
requirements require the candidate to be at least 18 years of age,
posses a valid Massachusetts driver's license and pass a criminal
records background check. Successful applicants are required
to attend a four-month training program--beginning each
January--which results in the issuance of Firefighter Level I/II
Certification by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.
During this period candidates are considered Recruits and are

limited in the role they
perform at incidents and in the station. They are provided
direction by the fulltime staff and call officers. While in
training Recruits receive classroom instruction, practical skill
training, and live fire experience through the Massachusetts
Firefighting Academy. Upon securing the required certificate these
Recruits are made full members of the department and are assigned to
a specific company.
