Deputy Chief James Knox joined the Acushnet Fire /
Rescue Department as a call firefighter in 1972, was
promoted to Call Lieutenant in 1987 and to the rank of
Call Deputy Chief in 1994. Deputy
Chief Knox is certified in Hazardous Materials to the
Operations Level. Jim is a long
serving member of the department’s Rescue Squad and
oversees the training of that group of members
responsible for vehicle extrication and other rescue
activities. He has served the
department in numerous capacities including Training
Officer, building committee member and apparatus
replacement committee.
Deputy Chief Knox has been active for
many years with the Acushnet Firefighters
Association and currently serves as Association
President, the organization responsible for the
annual Christmas Display and Halloween Parade.
Deputy Chief Knox
plays an important role – often serving as Incident
Commander – at incidents to which the fire
department responds. His
son and brother join him on the department.
