Deputy Chief James Knox joined the Acushnet Fire / Rescue Department as a call firefighter in 1972, was promoted to Call Lieutenant in 1987 and to the rank of Call Deputy Chief in 1994.  Deputy Chief Knox is certified in Hazardous Materials to the Operations Level.  Jim is a long serving member of the department’s Rescue Squad and oversees the training of that group of members responsible for vehicle extrication and other rescue activities.  He has served the department in numerous capacities including Training Officer, building committee member and apparatus replacement committee.

Deputy Chief Knox has been active for many years with the Acushnet Firefighters Association and currently serves as Association President, the organization responsible for the annual Christmas Display and Halloween Parade.

Deputy Chief Knox plays an important role – often serving as Incident Commander – at incidents to which the fire department responds.  His son and brother join him on the department.
